If the Englishman had forgotten what it felt like he reassured us that he was going to remind himself of the exotic feeling in the evening ahead. This was Hamilton’s first victory for seven months, since he won his third world championship with triumph in Austin last October, and it brought to an end a run of eight winless outings. More than that, more Rosberg success threatened to turn the season into a very one-sided affair. His Mercedes team-mate Rosberg enjoyed a 43-point lead going into the race and another victory here – and he had the grid advantage – would have probably driven Hamilton to the precipice of total despair.
